    Collective Fear

In 1943, Abraham Maslow identified a hierarchy of needs. These needs, according to Maslow, are the conditions that the human brain must satisfy, in order to thrive and meet its full potential. The foundation of the pyramid describes physical needs, like food, water and shelter. Just after physiological, comes the need for a sense of safety and security. In order to develop, the human brain must have a sense of safety and security. Fear erases that sense of safety. In modern day society- there are messages of fear attacking our psyche from every direction. These messages inundate media and seep…

Humans know more about space than they do about the oceans. The ocean is vast and dark. The ocean is filled with predators and prey. Small fish have had to develop methods of survival- whether that be traveling in groups, camouflage or poisonous flesh. Still- there are some fish who maintain their anonymity and face the enemy with a display of color and light. Freeform Crochet Sculpture – $1,423

  • Purple Mountains Majesty

    ·

Purple Mountains Majesty Until Covid, my husband and I were both teachers. Every year, during summer break, we would load our kids, dogs and tents into our van and drive through America. America is awesomely beautiful. There is so much diversity of land and of people. There is no other place like it on earth. There are some who say America is dead- and there are some who say that America should be dead. I disagree. I have gotten to know her, and she is very much alive and she is glorious. She is alive and she is beautiful and…

  • Evolution

    ·

Evolution While I was making this piece, I thought “it looks so grown up.” That made me think about growing up. Yesterday was my fifty second birthday, and I have done more growing up in the past two years than I had over the course of the first fifty. But even with all of that growing up- I still feel like a baby most of the time. I think maybe we don’t ever really grow up. Sometimes we may feel grown- but then there is always more growing to do. We don’t grow up. Throughout our lives we continue to…

  • Remembering

On this day last year my mom was healthy. She ate a perfect diet, did water aerobics daily, volunteered at the food pantry and had a rich and full social life. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the day I took her to the hospital for a small lump and pain in her groin. She would be sent home with a diagnosis of constipation and possible hernia- but that diagnosis was incorrect. Within two weeks of this day last year – my mom’s groin pain had become so debilitating that she could no longer walk and needed round the clock care.…

  • Womb

    ·

I have given birth five times. Five times, inside of my womb, genetic material has united and welcomed a heavenly spirit. Five times, I have sacrificed my body, my thoughts, my emotions and my soul to a new, tiny human. I have done that because of a profound love that a mother is preconditioned to have toward her children- it is a spiritual love that travels back to the beginning of time. A woman is a human who has the innate power to sacrifice herself to a divine love. That is a strength that deserves respect and reverence. A friend…

  • Something is not right with our kids

    ·

I have worked in Early Childhood Education for 30 years. I have directly taught and had genuine friendships with over 1000 children – and – something is not right with our kids. There is an unprecedented mental health crisis among our youth, and that is a problem that cannot be simply medicated and ignored. A change has happened in childhood over my lifetime, and it is not a healthy change. That change is the existence of and accessibility to technology. Technology has led many to a sedentary childhood spent wired into a virtual fantasy world filled with unnatural creatures and…

5G- from the Collective Fear collection- 2023

    ·

I was born in 1971. My early childhood was lived during the time just before personal computers. There were three television shows per day that were dedicated to kids and then there were Saturday morning cartoons. As children, we got up in the morning, ate breakfast and went outside. We played with the kids on our block from dawn until dusk. Except We always went inside to watch the three television shows per day that were dedicated to children- and we never missed Saturday morning cartoons. It was clear by 1971 that children were drawn to passive, technology based forms…

  • Risen- 2023

    ·

I no longer see Covid as a disease, but as a period of time. Covid- 19 has become a series of years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes. I’m still not sure if the world went crazy or if I went crazy- but all of a sudden, nothing made sense any longer – and time itself seemed to change. Days before the Covid lockdowns began, our family dog, Pepper, took his last breath in the presence of my son, Mikey, and myself. Mikey cried while he dug a hole in the backyard and buried his childhood friend. On March 16…

January 2023 The Methuselah tree in Eastern California is currently believed to be the oldest tree in the world. This Brisbane Pine has stood approximately 4,850 years. Trees stand sentry through multiple generations of humans. Methuselah was alive when the Egyptians were building the pyramids. Trees recognize the changes that man has brought to the world- whether those changes be for good or for evil. When a tree is felled a stump is left behind. In its wood, the old stump holds onto the memories of his lifetime while he provides a source of new life to worms and fungi.Mixed…

    Masks Are Hurting Our Kids

    ·

https://americanfaith.com/mask-mandates-causing-over-350-surge-in-childhood-speech-delays/ In Illinois, children aged 2 and up are mandated to wear masks all day at school other than nap time and outdoors (although, during February in Chicago, we are not often outdoors). For daycare children this is an average of 8-10 hours per day. Parents from 140 school districts took Governor Pritzker to court regarding these mandates. Of February 4, 2022, Judge Grischow ruled the mandates illegal, saying that masking children “in general continues to raise fair questions as to the legality of the Executive Orders in light of violations of healthy children’s substantive due process rights. Statutory rights…
