The Old Stump

March 1, 2023

·

Early childhood

January 2023

The Methuselah tree in Eastern California is currently believed to be the oldest tree in the world. This Brisbane Pine has stood approximately 4,850 years.

Trees stand sentry through multiple generations of humans. Methuselah was alive when the Egyptians were building the pyramids. Trees recognize the changes that man has brought to the world- whether those changes be for good or for evil.

When a tree is felled a stump is left behind. In its wood, the old stump holds onto the memories of his lifetime while he provides a source of new life to worms and fungi.
Mixed fiber freeform crochet sculpture. $1,780.
